SCSEP/AARP/Experience Works programs

Post  nancym on Mon Nov 16, 2009 7:54 pm

For those over 50:

I've posted info about this before, but Cindermaid on the OC forum posted this link today for a website that gives a bit more about programs for those over 50. The website is for two programs, one for 55 and over, another for between 50 and 62. They are employment programs, low pay and only temporary, but possibly an opportunity for those who have nothing coming in, or are up against just a few weeks of benefits. (You have to be out of benefits to qualify for these programs, but you might be able to apply ahead of time, I'm not sure.)

One program is funded by AARP and stimulus funds (I think), and another by a grant from Wal-Mart. The site has a map of where these programs are in effect and a general phone number.

I think my previous post on this was in the Training and Education section, because AARP was promoting their program as a quasi training/employment program. It's no substitute for a full-time job, but for those with nothing at all, it might be worth a look.
